Last time we went to Barcelona, we stayed at Hotel Praktik Rambla and loved it. At the moment, Praktik Hotels has no less than 4 locations in Barcelona, of which two have opened in the last year. When we headed back to Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, we were determined to try one of the three other Praktik hotels, and finally decided on Praktik Bakery, a hotel with 74 rooms just off Passeig De Gràcia.
The hotel’s theme comes from the bakery located in the hotel lobby. It may seem a bit of an unusual combination, but it makes sense: who doesn’t like the smell of freshly baked bread in the morning? The popular Baluard bakery has a branch on the ground floor/ lobby in the hotel, providing hotel guests and other hungry visitors with breakfast, lunch and coffee. Baluard already had an outlet in the Barceloneta area, but with the opening of the hotel, the bakery also services the people living and working in the centre of Barcelona. In the four days we spent at Praktik Bakery, there was literally always a queue forming inside the bakery and on the sidewalk during opening hours.
The rooms are compact but practical, and once again decorated by Lazaro Rosa-Violán, our favorite Spanish interior designer. While the Hotel lobby and hallways are decorated with dashes of yellow, the rooms are a clean combination of white hues and dark wood, and of course the Lazaro twist: hexagonal blue and white printed tiles in the bathroom area. A lovely home away from home.
